Abstract

Background: Obesity in developed and developing countries has increased rapidly every year. The imbalance between nutritious eating habits and low physical activity is the main trigger for increasing obesity rates in shift health workers. Objective: This research aimed to determine the relationship between eating habits and work stress and the incidence of obesity in shift-working nurses. Methods: This research used a cross-sectional study design. The study was conducted in August-October 2021. A total of 49 respondents who met the inclusion criteria were included in the study. Online questionnaire was used to collect data on respondent characteristics, eating habits, and work stress. Anthropometric data was measured using BIA. Pearson correlation test was used to see the correlation between eating habits with work stress and the incidence of obesity. Result: Most of the study subjects had normal nutritional status (51.1%) and were obese (48.9%). The statistical test showed a relationship between eating habits and work stress (p = 0.004). However, there was no relationship between eating habits and work stress with obesity (p = 0.155; p = 0.229). Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between eating habits and work stress. The worse the eating habis, the higher the level of work stress. Recommendation: In the next study, the number of respondents should be increased. In addition, it is encouraged to use more detail and specific questionnaire.
