Abstract

The problem of malnutrition that occurs in elementary school-age children is generally a condition of failure to thrive as a result of malnutrition (stunting) so that children are too short for their age. Another aspect that generally appears is weight that does not match height (thin/wasting). This is very possible because of malnutrition. However, the problem of excess nutrition also occurs in children of primary school age. Overnutrition at the age of elementary school children generally occurs in the form of overweight and obesity. The impact of these nutritional problems resulted in a decrease in their productivity, including a decrease in their enthusiasm for learning. Elementary school-age children are one of the age groups that often trigger high data on malnutrition problems in Indonesia. On the other hand, elementary school age children are the next generation in the future. The quality of human resources in the future may experience problems if the current growth and development of children has problems, especially with regard to nutrition. Lack of food consumption and understanding of proper nutrition will become a problem of malnutrition or growth disorders. Even though the problem of nutrition in children of primary school age is a health problem that concerns intelligence and the future. The health and nutritional conditions of school-age children are one of the factors in achieving the Education for All. Therefore, realizing how important it is to understand nutrition, the government, in this case the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology, through the Directorate of Elementary Schools, seeks to influence, promote, or try to implement nutrition education for the age group of elementary school-age children. Interventions carried out by the Directorate of Elementary Schools are carried out through (a) Intracurricular, (b) Extracurricular, (c) School Programs, and (d) Healthy Schools. Development through intracurricular activities is carried out through curriculum diversification, including developing learning indicators by strengthening materials that are in line with nutrition and health promotion. Interventions carried out through extracurriculars include developing promotion reinforcement through habituation with an approach that is in line with curriculum diversification but implementation is carried out outside of study hours. Reference to the Learning Implementation Plan or Teaching Plan developed in line with the development carried out by SEAMEO RECFON. Various school programs aim to ensure elementary school-age children understand and apply nutrition education in their lives and become healthy for learning, including the School Health Business Program (UKS), Providing School Children's Supplementary Food (PMTAS), School Canteens, School Gardens, School Children Nutrition Program. The Healthy School Program is a program that aims to create schools that are clean, green, shady, safe and comfortable, so that students become healthy, active and fit, and are able to live a clean and healthy life. This program is carried out through reinforcing the UKS program which includes (1) Promoting clean and healthy living habits, (2) Promoting healthy food consumption, (3) Increasing regular physical activity, and (4) Creating a healthy and conducive school environment. It is hoped that the implementation of the various programs above will be able to overcome the problem of fulfilling the nutrition needs of elementary school-age children to a healthy condition for learning and be able to address health and malnutrition problems at the age of elementary school children.
